Matthew Wing
Executive Director
Originally hailing from The Finger Lakes region of Upstate New York, I knew in high school that I had a passion for seniors. My relationships with my maternal grandmother and maternal great-grandmother sealed the deal. I received my B.S. in Health Services Administration, with a concentration in Gerontology and Business Studies from Ithaca College in 1997. After graduation I struck out for the West Coast, specifically Portland, with the intention of joining the leading edge of healthcare delivery models for seniors. In that quest I found Avamere, and for the next four years I worked as a Nursing Home Administrator in OR and WA, learning and helping others along the way. In was a singular experience, especially at that age, working with a company that was rewriting the way we look and care for seniors. It was obvious to me then that Avamere would be recognized in the future on a national stage.
In 2002 I was offered the opportunity to expand my knowledge and responsibilities by becoming a Regional Director of Operations for a national company that operate Assisted Living Facilities (ALF's) and Independent Living Facilities (ILF's). I left on very good terms with Avamere and I had no idea that we would cross paths again. No one every does!
In this new position I was exposed to many regional markets across the country and a myriad of ways to provide service and care for others. All of the experiences strung together planted a tiny dream inside of me. I visualized a place for seniors that was vibrant, full of life; a place where I could help shape a culture without the various stumbling blocks I had experienced in other organizations. This dream grew, and gave me the courage to strike out on my own.
In 2003 I formed a healthcare management company and leased a nursing home in WA. This was a three year endeavor that culminated in the sale of the facility and my organization. It was an amazing project that gave me an undetermined amount of experience in leadership, service excellence and humility. Above all else, though, I learned about myself.
In 2006 I met the love of my life, April.
I also formed a second company, a partnership, outside healthcare in the electronics industry. In 2007 I met the second love of my life, Frank the Wonder Cat.
By 2008 I had left my partnership realizing that I had no true passion in electronics beyond a hobby level and healthcare was beckoning me. Literally.
I recruited by Kindred Healthcare to assist them at a nursing home in Medford, OR. That was successful and I was offered a permanent position in Vancouver, WA. It fit well as we had located ourselves in the Pearl District of Portland and April works for the Oregon State DHS.
At Vancouver Health & Rehabilitation Center we continued to do great work, winning awards for quality of care and overall operational excellence. At that point Avamere came back into my life, offering a dream job:
The Stafford.
I am truly honored to lead this fine community and look forward to the many rich relationships to come!

Life Enrichment Director
Connecting with people has been a part of my personality as long as I can remember, so interacting with the residents and staff at the Stafford is a favorite part of life for me!
My love for seniors goes back to my relationship with my grandparents and all their fun friends. I spent my childhood summers on a lake at "Rocky Point" and it is there that we talked around the campfire, played cards into the night and the parties they threw I still talk about! Just recently I reconnected with an old friend who is a Life Enrichment Director in Cordova Tennesee, I asked her what led her to that position, her reply was, "your grandmother Millie!"
I am native to Lake Oswego and I reside here with my husband Chip, daughter Tabitha, big rottweiler Mr. Bell (his real name is Tinkerbelle) and tiny Chihuahua Princess.
I attended Aesthetics Institute to become a certified medical esthetician and prior to The Stafford I was at a five star spa. Being part of an experience where I partake in creating moments of joy for the residents truly elevates and impassions me to new levels!
Lucie Flood
Director of Vitality Center
I was born with dislocated hips, developed a serious scoliosis, and was expected a short life in a wheel chair. I beat the odds and believe that with good care and lots of support everyone has a chance no matter when and where they begin.
My background from the Czech Republic is in Public Health. I also taught English to children and adults in Prague and worked as translator. I have traveled extensively and lived in many countries throughout Europe and North America. In Canada I had a life-changing experience working with elderly and their families affected by Alzheimer.
I finally settled and grew to love Portland where I live with my two young children, dog, cat and fish. During my first pregnancy I met a wonderful teacher and a new style of yoga which has kept me in good health ever since. I took the training shortly after my daughter was born already expecting my son. I have been teaching this yoga for the last five years and have come to believe and experience that with good care and lots of support we can spring to overall wellness whenever and from wherever we are.

Doreen Chesnut
Business Office Manager
Hello my name is Doreen Chesnut. I have the priviledge of being the Business Office Manager here at the Stafford.
I was born and raised in a small town just north of here, Longview Washington.
I grew up on a small farm with 4 siblings, my parents, and a variety of animals. I loved my life on the "farm".
My educational background is in Business/Accounting. I have been working in this area for over twenty five years.
And enjoy very much the analytical and organizational parts of accounting. I also enjoy my interaction with all of the residents here at The Stafford, as I have done with my parents in their retirement years.
I have two wonderful, in many ways, sons. Richard is 28, was in the Army Oregon National Guard for six years, including deployment to Iraq. He is married with their first baby, my beautiful granddaughter (I have pictures if you would like to stop by my office). Gabriel is 26, single...but looking...and attends Multnomah University. Gabe was in the Marine's as an MP in the K-9 unit for four years, then two years as a civilian.
I enjoy spending much time with my family, my newly adopted dog, Libby, a chocolate lab mix, and my work here at The Stafford.
